Physically, Columba vitiensis is on average 40 cm long and weighs 250-325 grams. It has a dark blue-gray head, white neck and breast, wings and tail covered with brown spots. The eyes are reddish-brown or orange.
This species of pigeon can be found in a variety of habitats, including forests, coastal areas, farmland and urban areas. They usually feed on seeds, fruits, leaves and other plant materials.
Columba vitiensis builds its nests in trees or bushes and usually lays a single egg. The incubation period lasts approximately 18-21 days and the hatchlings take flight between 18-24 days.
