5 Blooming Cactus Species

 Cacti are one of the most popular plants because they have an exotic appearance and are one of the easiest to care for.

                                       

There are many types of cacti that bloom at home, and many of them have characteristics that set them apart from the rest.

1. Astrophytum
The name of this type of cactus comes from the Greek and means "plant star" in translation, because if you look at this species from above, you will see that it almost looks like a star. It has a long and strong root. Its flowers are completely clear, have a white or yellowish color and bloom at a young age.
The flowering period lasts for 2-3 days in spring and summer. It is necessary to keep Astrophytum, which is among the blooming cactus species, at a temperature of 10-12 ° C, and if you keep it at low temperatures in the autumn-winter months, you do not need to water it.

2. Disocactus
These wonderful cacti have their origins in Mexico. Its trunk is branched into many slender trunks, the length of which can reach one meter. Its spines are in the form of bristles. They bloom tubular flowers, about 10 cm in length, and the flowers can be of various colors depending on the species: pink, raspberry, orange, red. It can bloom throughout the spring. Good lighting is especially important in the early stages of flowering. It can be placed on a balcony or terrace where it can get fresh air in spring and summer, but it should not receive direct sunlight. The optimum temperature for Disocactus is around 20-25°C.

3. Mammillaria
There are a large number of varieties of this type of cactus. There are more than 200 varieties; therefore it is one of the largest genera of the cactus family. Its roots are spherical or cylindrical. Soft cone-shaped papillae are arranged in uniform rows on the body. Another type of blooming cactus, this species can bloom in pink, yellow, white, cream and pink-white colors.
The flowering period of the Mammillaria genus coincides with the beginning of spring. Suitable temperature is about 25°C in summer and 10-15°C in winter. In very hot weather, the plant can be sprayed with water. Like other cacti, Mammillaria does not like its soil to overflow, so watering should not be done too often.


4. Rebutia
It is a popular plant among blooming cactus species. These indoor cacti have a succulent stem. It is covered with short, hard, silvery or yellowish spines. The flowers are about 2.5 cm in diameter and may come in colors such as cream, pink, purple or red. The flowering period lasts about two days in the last months of spring. When the room where the cactus is well ventilated, they are not badly affected by direct sunlight, temperatures between 5°C and 25°C are suitable for this species and they adapt well to sudden temperature jumps. Irrigation should be done infrequently and should be waited until the soil is thoroughly dry.

5. Cereus
It is another example for flowering cactus species. It is quite long-lived; They bloom large, white and vanilla-scented flowers. Flowering periods coincide with the beginning of summer. A temperature of 8-12°C is suitable for the temperature in the environment in winter.
