Tarsus Catalburun - Turkish Pointer: Dog Breed Facts and Information

Tarsus Çatalburun dog, also known as Turkish Pointer, is one of the dog breeds of which Turkey is proud of its origin. This breed is considered one of the oldest representatives of Turkish hunting dogs. It grew especially around Mersin's Tarsus and took its name from this region.
One of its main features is its long and forked nose. This nose structure is a distinguishing feature from other pointer breeds. The word çatal (fork) is used in Turkish to mean dual and double. Tarsus Çatalburun dog is a pointer breed used in hunting and is especially proficient in bird hunting.
Turkish Point Terrier has an athletic and strong structure as well as an elegant appearance. The chest structure is wide and the body is proportional. They can be in various colors such as brown, white, yellow and black.
These dogs guide their owners during the hunt and point to prey animals. They have an energetic, intelligent and loyal nature. They get along well with families and are social dogs.
However, the Tarsus Çatalburun dog population has decreased and is on the endangered species list. Therefore, various conservation and breeding programs are carried out to protect the breed and increase its population.
